The police in Delta State have arrested six suspected armed robbers within two days in Asaba, the state capital.
The suspects were nabbed at their various locations on Sunday October 22, and Tuesday October 24, by the team commanders, and the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) of each division, who carried out intensive stop and search duty across the state.
Spokesperson for the State Police Command, Bright Edafe, who confirmed the arrest, said one of the suspects was arrested at about 11:12 a.m. when a team led by SP Inyere Elias Chinedu was on night patrol along Asaba – Benin Expressway by Rain Oil Filling Station, Asaba.
Edafe explained that the police intercepted a commercial shuttle bus (Reg. Number unknown) with four male passengers .
“During a search of the bus, one English Beretta pistol, and one dagger, were recovered from one of the occupants, identified as Ishiaku Ya’u, while the suspect and exhibits are being kept in custody pending the outcome of the investigation,” he said.
According to him, the police are on the trail of the fleeing suspects to arrest them and recover their weapons.
Edafe also confirmed the arrest of two male suspects on October 22, at about 11:00 a.m. by the sector ‘C’ of the ember months’ patrol team.
He said the officers were on stop and search duty along Asaba-Benin expressway when they intercepted a shuttle bus with the two passengers, who were found with one locally made cut-to-size gun, and two live cartridges.
“The suspects were arrested immediately, and this made the number so far arrested to be six, though some of them have been charged to court with the recovered two English made pistols a nd four locally made guns.
“The command appeals to members of the public to play pivotal roles by reaching out to the police on time over any suspicious movements of persons in their environments,” he added.
