The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected drug dealers and rescued a kidnapped woman in separate operations across the state. Spokesperson for the Command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Bright Edafe, confirmed the development yesterday, describing it as another major breakthrough in the Command’s renewed onslaught against crime and illicit drug trade.
He said operatives of the Crack Squad, acting on credible intelligence, raided a hideout at the Government Reserved Area, Effurun, in the early hours of October 12, 2025, where two suspects, Igwe Samson, 33, and Abalum Sunday, 39, were apprehended.
During the operation, a search of the suspects’ Toyota Sienna vehicle led to the recovery of a large quantity of drugs, including 450 bottles of CSP Codeine, 188 bottles of Bargadine, 208 sachets of Tramadol 100mg, 100 sachets of Tramadol 500mg, 300 sachets of Swinol, 50 sachets of Rophynol, and a bag of weeds suspected to be cannabis.
According to Edafe, preliminary investigations showed that the suspects had been involved in the illegal drug business for about two years, sourcing their supplies from Onitsha and transporting them mainly at night to avoid detection.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, including their suppliers and buyers,” he said. In a separate development, operatives of the Ovian-Aladja Police Division foiled a kidnapping operation and rescued a woman abducted from her home earlier that day.
The Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Friday Ekundayo, reportedly acted on a distress call received around 2:00 a.m. and led his team in pursuit of the kidnappers.
The suspects were later traced to a forest near the Iyara community, where sustained pressure from the police forced them to abandon their victim and flee. The woman was rescued unhurt and reunited with her family. The police said efforts were underway to track down the fleeing suspects.
