Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a fake soldier and armed robbers operating between the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and Nasarawa State.
This was revealed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Ranham Nansel, in a press statement made available to The Guardian on Sunday in Lafia, the state capital.
According to the statement, Police operatives attached to Angwan Lambu Division, Keffi, Nasarawa State, have arrested a fake soldier and armed robbery suspect following a successful intelligence-led operation.
The statement noted that the suspect, identified as Godswill Achili, was apprehended while dressed in military camouflage.
It said, “Upon interrogation, he confessed to impersonating a soldier and engaging in armed robbery. Further investigations revealed that he is a member of a criminal syndicate operating in both the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nasarawa State.”
The police disclosed that the syndicate operates in full military uniforms, using a black, unregistered Toyota Avalon, targeting unsuspecting members of the public—particularly youths and students traveling between Keffi, New Karu, and the FCT.
It added, “They lure victims into their vehicle under false pretenses before robbing them of valuables such as money and mobile phones.”
The command noted that investigations have also revealed that at least two other members of the syndicate remain at large, and efforts are underway to bring them to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police to curb criminal activities in the state.
