The Plateau State House of Assembly has approved the supplementary budget of N109.7 billion submitted by the state government for consideration and approval for the 2025 financial year.

At the plenary held at the Old Government House in Rayfield, Jos, on Tuesday, the Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and members representing Jos North-North presented a breakdown, including recurrent expenditure of N29,409,850,222.86, while capital expenditure amounts to N80,675,514,797.50.

Aliyu added that there was an addendum from the state government amounting to N35,120,551,223.50, in addition to the supplementary budget of N74,605,413,000 earlier presented in September.

During the plenary also, a bill for a law to establish the Plateau State House of Assembly Pension Service Board and to administer the Contribution Pension Scheme was read for its first time.

Also, in another development, Daniel Nanbol Listick has urged the state government to direct the Ministry of Health, related departments, agencies, and hospitals to include Newborn Screening (NBS) for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in all state hospitals and public health facilities.

Listick stressed the urgency of saving lives and correcting wrong narratives about SCD.

Similarly, a motion by Chollom called on government and relevant security agencies to urgently address the worsening insecurity in the state.

A member, Mark Na’ah, representing Jos North West constituency, who supported the motion, highlighted the need for synergy between security agencies and the Assembly to bridge existing gaps.

However, members of the House unanimously resolved to support initiatives aimed at improving the Welfare of Plateau citizens, including the Newborn Screening in the state health facilities.

They equally urged the government to prioritise security in Barkin Ladi Local Government and the state at large, while pledging closer collaboration with security agencies to address insecurity and foster economic development.

The Speaker, Naanlong Daniel, announced a recess while the plenary will resume on September 30.
