Super Eagles stars Chidera Ejuke and Akor Adams are set to work under new leadership at Sevilla, following the club’s confirmation that head coach Matías Almeyda has been sacked, Soccernet.ng reports.

Almeyda arrived at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán last summer after the club parted ways with García Pimienta.

He was appointed to steer Los Nervionenses toward a more successful campaign following their disappointing 17th-place finish last season, where they narrowly escaped relegation.

However, after 29 La Liga matches, Sevilla find themselves in a similarly perilous position—if not worse. Currently sitting 15th in the Spanish top flight, they are a mere three points above the relegation zone and face a genuine threat of dropping to the second tier.

The breaking point came last weekend following a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to fellow relegation strugglers Valencia. That result marked Sevilla’s 14th loss of the season, meaning the club has lost nearly half of their league fixtures this term.

In the wake of the Valencia defeat, the club officially announced Almeyda’s departure via a statement on their website:

”Matías Almeyda has been relieved of his duties as Sevilla FC first-team head coach,” the club confirmed.

”The Argentine coach leaves the club after 32 official matches—29 in La Liga and three in the Copa del Rey—following his arrival last June. Sevilla FC wish to thank Matías Almeyda and his staff for their efforts and professionalism, and we wish him the best for the future.”
