The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has advised corps members to respect local customs, stay committed, be resourceful, and be punctual at primary assignments and urging them to contribute to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

According to a post on the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters (NDHQ) X handle on Saturday, Nafiu gave the advice while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One corps members at the orientation camps in Ogun and Oyo states.

He lauded the corps members for responding to the call to serve the nation and urged them to manage their finances wisely, noting that prudent financial management would support them during and after the service year.

The NYSC boss also cautioned them to respect the customs of their host communities and maintain good conduct throughout their service.

“When you are posted to your place of primary assignment, respect their rules, be punctual, be resourceful and learn the culture of the organisation you are posted to,” Nafiu said.

Earlier, the NYSC Ogun State Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Nasamu, informed the Director-General that 3,341 corps members, including 975 originally deployed to Lagos State, were registered at the camp.

She said the corps members had “conducted themselves responsibly and adapted to the regimented camp life,” adding that “all camp officials are also performing their duties diligently with high sense of synergy.”

In Oyo State, the NYSC Coordinator, Mr Kayode Ola-Peters, said 3,068 registered corps members had shown commendable character, participated actively in camp activities and demonstrated readiness to contribute to national development across sectors.

The National Youth Service Corps had earlier announced that the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course commenced nationwide on Wednesday, January 21, across all 37 NYSC orientation camps.

“Camp Registration for all Corps Members will take place from Wednesday, 21st to midnight of Friday, 23rd, January, 2026.”

The Swearing-in Ceremony was held on Friday, 23rd January, 2026, while the Closing Ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 10th February, 2026.
