The Turkish Super Lig is gradually becoming a comfortable home for Super Eagles stars as several Nigeria international players will feature in the division next season, Soccernet.ng reports.
Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen is the league’s record signing while Paul Onuachu finished as the top scorer last term. More Nigerians are set to join as Chidozie Awaziem has joined Konyaspor and Gift Orban have sealed a move to Amedspor. Kelechi Iheanacho also rejected an offer of a return to Celtic to secure a transfer to Turkish second-tier club Bursaspor.
Yira Sor could soon become the latest Super Eagles player to head to the Turkish Süper Lig, with Amedspor pushing hard to complete a deal for the Nigerian winger from Belgian side KRC Genk, as per Transferfeed.
The newly promoted Turkish club is in advanced talks with Genk over the transfer of the 26-year-old, although the two clubs are yet to reach a final agreement on the fee and other details. Negotiations are ongoing, with Amedspor hopeful of completing the move before the new league season begins.
Sor has just one year remaining on his contract at Genk, putting the Belgian club in a difficult position. Since they are not planning to offer him a new deal, Genk would rather sell him this summer than risk losing him for free when his contract expires next year.
If the transfer goes through, Sor will join fellow Nigerian Gift Orban at Amedspor. Orban recently completed a season-long loan move from German Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim, meaning the two Super Eagles forwards could become key figures in the club’s attack.
Amedspor are preparing for life in the Turkish top flight after earning promotion under head coach Besnik Hasi. The club has been active in the transfer market as it looks to build a squad capable of avoiding relegation and competing against established Süper Lig sides.
A fresh start for Super Eagles star Sor
Sor remains one of Nigeria’s quickest attacking players, capable of playing on the left wing or across the front line. His football journey began at Family Love Academy in Port Harcourt before he moved to Lagos-based 36 Lion FC, where his performances attracted interest from European clubs.
In February 2021, Sor signed for Czech club Baník Ostrava and adapted quickly, producing three goals and five assists during the first half of the 2021-22 season. His impressive displays earned him a move to Czech giants Slavia Prague in January 2022.
It was in European competition that Sor truly announced himself. During Slavia Prague’s UEFA Europa Conference League campaign, he scored braces against Turkish giants Fenerbahçe and Austrian side LASK. His standout display against Fenerbahçe in February 2022, when he scored twice in a thrilling 3-2 victory, helped raise his profile across Europe.
Those performances convinced Genk to spend around €6.5 million to sign him in January 2023. While he has shown flashes of his quality in Belgium, recurring injury problems have prevented him from becoming a regular starter. Even so, he still managed to contribute goals and assists in both the Belgian Pro League and UEFA Europa League.
During the 2025-26 season, Sor made 39 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing one assist. His consistent displays also earned him his long-awaited senior Nigeria debut in March 2026, having previously represented the Flying Eagles at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
