Calvin Bassey has played football in a good number of countries across the world…
Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has reveals that he loves Nigerian football fans due to their high level of passion, Soccernet.ng reports.
Bassey was born in Italy to Nigerian parents, but he moved to England early in his life. So, that made him eligible to play for any of the three countries.
However, he decided to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria, making his debut in 2022, and that has proven to be the right decision so far.

The 25-year-old versatile center-back has established himself as a key member of the team and has become a mainstay.
At club level, he has also been one of Marco Silva’s most reliable lieutenants for Fulham. He even won the Player of the Season Award last season.
In a recent chit-chat Bassey had with his club and national teammate Iwobi, they spoke about the experience of playing for Nigeria, and they compared the fans at Fulham and Nigeria.
Bassey, who has played for top sides like Ajax and Rangers, admitted that the best fans he has experienced are Nigerian football fans due to their intensity and passion.
What Calvin Bassey Said About Nigerian Football Fans
“I prefer the Nigerian fans, they are mad. They are constantly, they are there like two hours before the game,” Bassey said.
“There are people there with their drums out, they’ve got everything, I’ve even seen a man with a guitar in the stands.
“They will paint their own body head to toe, they are proper sick. But they can turn on you sometimes, but when you’re winning, they cheer you on.
“But I can’t like, I’ve got to respect them. They turn up in every game.”
From Calvin Bassey’s comments, it can be inferred that he loves the support from the Super Eagles fans in Nigeria.
The Fulham man will get another chance to play in front of the Super Eagles fans one more time this month, when Nigeria lock horns with Benin in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
