The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released the results of the 2025 entrance examination into Federal Technical Colleges (FTCs), with only 39 per cent of candidates scoring 50 per cent and above.

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, Dr Aminu Mohammed, made this known on Wednesday in Benin during the official announcement of the results. The announcement coincides with the commencement of a three-day selection and placement exercise for admission into the colleges.

According to Dr Mohammed, a total of 24,074 candidates sat for the examination, with only 9,389 candidates meeting or surpassing the 50 per cent mark. He further noted that just 1.31 per cent of the candidates, representing 316 students, scored 70 per cent and above.

“Additionally, the results indicated that eight candidates, representing 0.03 per cent, achieved the highest rank,” he said.

Dr Mohammed urged stakeholders involved in the selection and placement process to prioritise merit and suitability in admitting students into Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes offered by the colleges.

“I look forward to a fair, transparent and merit-based selection process that attracts the most talented and motivated students,” he said. “By getting this process right, I am confident that we can set our students up for success and enhance the reputation of our institution.”

He also acknowledged the Federal Government’s renewed interest in technical education, commending the support of the Minister of Education and the Minister of State for Education in advancing TVET initiatives.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, the Director of Technology and Science Education in the ministry, Dr Muibat Olodo, encouraged school administrators to implement government policies geared toward improving technical education in the country.

Dr Alausa also disclosed that the federal government had established two additional colleges in Enugu and Plateau states, with plans underway to establish three more, with the aim of having at least one federal technical college in each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The event was attended by principals of Federal Technical Colleges from across the country, officials from the Federal Ministry of Education, NABTEB staff, and other stakeholders.
