Real Madrid coach José Mourinho has revealed how he tried to convince Vinícius Jr to remain at Real Madrid, telling the Brazilian forward that leaving the Spanish giants would not be worth it.
Mourinho said he called Vinícius directly and asked him where he could possibly go after becoming so familiar with life at Real Madrid.
As reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X on Wednesday, Mourinho said: “I called Vini Jr and told him: Vini, where do you want to go? You only know Real Madrid.”
The Portuguese coach explained that Vinícius might only fully appreciate the magnitude of Real Madrid if he left the club.
“When you leave, then you’ll know what Real Madrid is,” Mourinho said.
Mourinho then gave the forward a direct warning.
“Don’t go.”
He also insisted that moving away from the Spanish giants would not be worthwhile for Vinícius.
“It’s not worth it!” the Portuguese coach added.
Vinícius has become one of Real Madrid’s leading attacking players since joining the club, playing a key role in their success and establishing himself as one of the most influential players in world football.
The Brazilian winger has signed a new six-year contract with the Spanish giants, ending speculation over his future amid reported interest from Premier League side Arsenal.
