Super Eagles forward Moses Usor set up LASK’s opening goal in a 4-0 Champions League win over Slovan Bratislava, as Nigeria prepare for their Tanzania qualifiers under Eric Chelle.
On Tuesday 3 November the Nigerian laid on the 19th-minute opener for Kasper Jørgensen, who added a second in the 37th, according to Complete Sports. Robert Ljubicic and Samuel Adeniran scored LASK’s other goals, and Usor was replaced by Christoph Lang in the 75th minute.
Usor is not new to this stage. Soccernet previewed his side’s Champions League meeting with Liverpool a few weeks ago.
A scoring debut in the green shirt
He made his Nigeria debut in the 2-1 win over Madagascar in the opening AFCON qualifier, when he and George Ilenikhena, also a debutant, scored, as reported by Afrik-Foot. Nigeria followed that with a 3-0 defeat by Guinea-Bissau and sit on three points from two games in Group L.
Analysis: Why a creative game matters to Chelle
An assist in a 4-0 win does not decide a squad, but it adds a second kind of contribution to a scoring debut. Nigeria need results from the Tanzania games, and a forward who can both finish and create gives Chelle a different option from the more established names. Whether that earns Usor a place in the squad is Chelle’s call, and the group picture is laid out in Soccernet’s piece on why March, not Tanzania, may decide Group L.
The Tanzania double-header comes this month, and LASK’s next matches will give Usor further chances to press his case.
