.Says defection won’t rattle PDP

Umar Sani, a former spokesman of former Vice President Namadi Sambo, claims that Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah did not legitimately win the 2023 Enugu governorship election.

Umar said this following Mbah’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Fielding questions from reporters on Wednesday, Sani maintained that the PDP remains unshaken by the wave of defections rocking the party, insisting that the governor is swimming against the tide.
He posited that the wave of defections in the PDP is externally induced, saying: “What is happening within the PDP is being orchestrated by fifth columnists,” Sani said.

“Mbah’s defection will not rattle the PDP because he is swimming against the tide. In fact, he did not even win the election,” he added.

In his defection speech, Mbah hinted that he is committed to advancing the state’s interests and expressed confidence that the APC’s platform would provide greater opportunities for collaboration and growth.

Mbah stated that his decision to join the APC was his desire for a visionary partnership that would bring about transformative change to the state and the nation.

It would be recalled that INEC handed Mbah victory with 160,895 votes to his closest rival, Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party, who polled 157,552 votes — a margin of just about 3,300 votes.

Edeoga’s camp rejected the results, accusing the tribunal of ignoring evidence of electoral fraud and irregularities, especially in Nkanu East LGA, where over-voting was alleged.
