Olympique de Marseille have moved on from Super Eagles boss Eric Chelle in their search for a new head coach and are now closing in on former club captain Habib Beye, Soccernet.ng reports.
Earlier reports suggest that the Super Eagle boss was among the potential candidates to take over the reins from Roberto de Zerbi.
Meanwhile, the Phocaean club are finalising the administrative steps needed to register the Senegalese tactician’s contract, with RMC Sports indicating that an agreement in principle has already been reached between both parties.
Habib Beye expected in Marseille
Beye is expected in Marseille on Wednesday evening as OM works to complete the paperwork that would allow him to be officially unveiled.
If all goes to plan, he will be presented on Thursday, take charge of training, and hold his first pre-match press conference.
The former defender could even make his debut on the bench when OM travel to face Brest on Friday night. However, his presence on the touchline remains conditional on the completion of his signature.
Rennes’ departure clears path for OM move
The breakthrough follows developments at Stade Rennais, who recently confirmed the arrival of Franck Haise as their new head coach.
Rennes subsequently released Beye from his duties, which accelerated negotiations with Marseille.
OM hope to welcome him officially on Thursday if all formalities are concluded in time. In the meantime, Jacques Abardonado is ensuring continuity in training and could play a transitional role until Beye fully takes charge.
Following Eric Chelle’s omission from the shortlist, Marseille appear set to hand the reins to Beye, who would become Nnadi’s new coach.
