The Association of Resident Doctors, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, has backed the proposed nationwide strike by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors to press on its demands.

The LUTH-ARD said its members would be joining the strike scheduled to begin on Monday, January 12, 2026.

PUNCH Healthwise reports that NARD had on Saturday announced plans to resume its Total, Indefinite and Complete Strike (TICS 2.0) on January 12, 2026, to press home its demands.

NARD’s decision follows resolutions reached at its Emergency National Executive Council meeting last Friday.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, LUTH-ARD President, Dr. Gbolahan Adenuga, said their decision to back NARD followed the Federal Government’s failure to honor the agreements reached with resident doctors.

“This action has become inevitable due to the continued failure of the Federal Government to honour the Memorandum of Understanding previously signed with NARD, despite repeated engagements, assurances, and ample time provided for implementation.

“We are committed to professional dignity and fair labour practices; we hereby urge the government to address these issues,” he said.

PUNCH Healthwise reports that NARD had suspended its indefinite strike on November 29, 2025, after 29 days of industrial action, following the signing of the MoU with the government.

The MoU commits the government to meet NARD’s demands within four weeks.

However, the FG had yet to meet the resident doctors’ demands.

But the LUTH-ARD president said the “breach of agreement” has worsened the welfare conditions of doctors and reduced the morale of resident doctors in LUTH.
