The last time these two sides met, Portugal won 4–0 in Lisbon in November 2022. Bruno Fernandes scored twice, with Gonçalo Ramos and João Mário adding late goals to complete a comfortable night for the hosts.
Several members of that Nigeria squad remain in the current setup, and tonight represents an opportunity to produce a more competitive performance.
Portugal arrive well-drilled and fully loaded. Roberto Martínez’s side have won 29 of their first 39 matches in charge, and the return of the Paris Saint-Germain quartet — Nuno Mendes, Vitinha, João Neves and Gonçalo Ramos — following their Champions League triumph adds further depth to a squad already brimming with quality.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva are all expected to feature as Portugal sharpen up for their World Cup opener against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Nigeria are without Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, while defender Igoh Ogbu is ruled out through injury. Despite those absences, Eric Chelle has a strong core available — Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, Calvin Bassey and Maduka Okoye all travel to Leiria. The Super Eagles drew 2–2 with Poland on June 3 and will look to carry that competitive edge into tonight’s test.
