A legal practitioner in Akure, Ondo State, Oyekanmi Isijola, has dragged nine people, including another Akure-based female legal practitioner, Oluwanike Omotayo, to an Upper Area Court in Ilorin over alleged criminal intimidation, forgery, defamation, injurious falsehood, and cyber stalking.

The other eight people were those accused of conspiring with lawyer Omotayo to dispose of the property bequeathed to lawyer Isijola.

The case that came up for mention on Monday was, according to the court, contrary to the provisions of the Penal Code Law and Cybercrime Prohibition and Prevention Act, respectively.

While Lawyer Omotayo, the first defendant, was absent in court, her Counsel, Okedayo Nicholas, informed the Court that his client could not appear due to personal issues that demanded her urgent attention.

He prayed the Court against issuing a Warrant of Arrest being sought by the complaint’s counsel, Moses Bisi Afolayan.

However, the Court issued a Warrant of Arrest against the seventh and eighth defendants who were duly summoned but failed to appear before the Court.

In his ruling, however, the Judge magnanimously refused a Warrant of Arrest against Omotayo because of her legal representation, while the matter was adjourned to September 30th for further mention.

The complainant told journalists, “I initiated the complaint as a result of moves by the defendants to unlawfully convert the estate of my late father to their personal property.

“I had obtained the death certificate of my father, likewise an affidavit of next-of-kin at the Probate Registry of the Kwara State High Court and upon realizing my action, which I am entitled to do as my late father’s first son, the defendants resorted to threats to my person in Ilorin and in Akure for daring to obtain the said documents in Ilorin.

“The defendants questioned my paternity through different mediums and even changed my name to ‘Ovieh Takky’ a name I have never bore before.

“I hope to get justice against the persons mentioned in my complaint,” he explained.
Before they could be reached for interviews, the legal team of the defendants had hurriedly left the court premises.
