Sanwo-Olu warns against lawlessness, insists no building must rise without permit
Lagos State Government, yesterday, reaffirmed its commitment to building an agile and smart workforce with the successful completion of more than 20 training programmes in the second and third quarters of 2025, with over 3000 staff as participants.
The programmes, organised by the Ministry of Establishments and Training, benefitted over 3,000 workers across the state’s public service, cutting across virtually all cadres of officers in various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The focus was on enhancing both job-specific competencies and generic skills that are vital for effective service delivery. The training sessions also addressed diverse and critical areas, including unlocking liquidity through transformational leadership, financial management and planning, leveraging talent development for the next public service, fostering a culture of creativity and innovation in the workplace, strategies for eliminating bottlenecks in procurement, leadership and management in social workers supervision and marketing, data-driven decision making in the public sector, and risk-based internal audit technologies, among others.
Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, described the development as a demonstration of the administration’s determination to strengthen human capital in the state’s public service.
According to him, the scope and reach of the training programmes demonstrate the state government’s resolve to empower officers with technical knowledge and managerial skills essential for providing exceptional services to Lagos residents. He emphasised that a strong and well-equipped workforce remains the bedrock of sustainable development.
In the same vein, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Olubusola Abidakun, expressed satisfaction with the impact of the programmes, noting that the deliberate blend of specialised courses with cross-cutting soft skills has enabled officers to perform optimally in their various roles.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has warned that his administration will not tolerate lawlessness in the state’s physical development, insisting that no building must rise without a valid planning permit.
The governor, represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Samuel Egube, gave the charge during a stakeholders’ forum organised by the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), themed “Planning Permit: The Rebirth.”
Sanwo-Olu cautioned residents and estate managers against obstructing officials who enforce planning laws, describing such acts as dangerous to public safety and the state’s aspiration of becoming Africa’s model megacity.
