More than N6bn has been paid to 123,314 vulnerable households across the state under the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, Lagos State Government disclosed.
This is as authorities intensify efforts to strengthen implementation and expand support for low-income residents.
The disclosure was made during a quarterly review meeting organised by the State Cash Transfer Unit under the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment at the Management Resource Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.
The session brought together facilitators and programme officials from the 20 local government areas of the state to evaluate performance, address operational challenges and improve service delivery mechanisms tied to the federal-backed social intervention initiative.
Speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, said the programme had become a critical support system for vulnerable families across Lagos.
Represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs Lolade Aina, the commissioner stressed that sustained cooperation between the state and local governments remained essential to the programme’s success.
“The success of the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme depends greatly on strong synergy between the State Government and Local Governments.
“Effective implementation can only be achieved when local government leadership, desk officers, facilitators, and community representatives fully take ownership of the programme,” he said.
Ajigbotafe said the review meeting was designed to assess operational progress, identify implementation gaps and improve coordination among field officers responsible for reaching beneficiaries across communities.
He commended local governments that recorded distribution efficiency rates above 90 per cent, singling out Kosofe, Ojo, Ifako-Ijaye, Apapa, Badagry and Ikeja for what he described as outstanding performance.
According to him, the results demonstrated “the positive outcomes achievable through effective collaboration between the state and local governments.”
The commissioner urged officials across all councils to deepen community engagement and ensure eligible beneficiaries were not excluded from the programme.
He said: “All local government teams must intensify community mobilisation efforts, strengthen beneficiary engagement, and ensure proper follow-up during subsequent distribution exercises to guarantee that all eligible beneficiaries benefit from the Renewed Hope Initiative.”
Participants at the meeting also held technical sessions focused on field operations, data management, monitoring systems and strategies aimed at improving the efficiency of future disbursements.
The Conditional Cash Transfer Programme forms part of broader social protection measures targeted at easing economic hardship among vulnerable households through direct financial support.
