Lafarge Africa Plc has announced the launch of EcoCrete, Nigeria’s first low-carbon ready-mix concrete, as part of its commitment to delivering more sustainable building materials and reducing the environmental impact of construction in the country.
Speaking at the launch in Abuja, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Africa, Mr. Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, said EcoCrete represents a significant milestone in the company’s journey towards decarbonising the built environment.
“This product expands our growing portfolio of sustainable solutions and further demonstrates our commitment to supporting Nigeria’s transition to a greener economy,” Alade-Akinyemi said.
“Just like our ECOPlanet cement range, EcoCrete is a game-changing innovation. It empowers builders and developers to make environmentally responsible choices without compromising on quality,” he added.
Mr. Derek Williamson, Head of Aggregates and ReadyMix at Lafarge Africa, explained that EcoCrete is designed for use across a wide range of construction projects, from residential and commercial buildings to roads and bridges.
“With its low carbon footprint and consistent high performance, EcoCrete enables engineers, contractors, and architects to meet sustainability goals while maintaining the structural integrity of their projects,” he said.
Also speaking, Head of Innovation and New Product Development at Lafarge Africa, Mr. Emmanuel Ilaboya, described the launch as a timely response to the challenges posed by climate change.
“EcoCrete is not just a product; it is a climate-smart innovation developed through extensive research. It offers a scalable solution that reduces CO₂ emissions and aligns with Nigeria’s broader sustainability objectives,” he noted.
The introduction of EcoCrete follows the earlier launches of ECOPlanet Unicem and ECOPlanet Elephant cement products in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
All three products form part of Lafarge Africa’s wider strategy to offer low-carbon alternatives across its product range.
