Super Eagles stars Chidera Ejuke and Akor Adams were the victims of an ambush by Sevilla fans on Sunday evening, Soccernet.ng reports.
Sevilla suffered their 15th loss of the campaign on Sunday, falling to a disappointing 1-0 defeat against relegation-bound Oviedo at the Carlos Tartiere.
It was a game in which Los Nervionenses were expected to secure a draw at the very least, given the performance of the struggling Oviedo this season. However, they ultimately flattered to deceive.
That defeat was their third straight, leaving them just two points above the relegation zone. With only eight games left to play this season, they face a significant risk of being relegated from the Spanish top flight for the first time since the 1999/2000 season.
Apparently, the Los Nervionenses faithful are not taking that possibility lightly, as they have resorted to hostility to pressure their players into producing positive results.
According to L’Equipe, about 50 masked Sevilla fans ambushed the players, including Adams and Ejuke, when they returned to the club’s training ground.
These angry fans blocked the entrance to the facility, insulting both the players and staff. It took the intervention of security agencies to keep the players safe and douse the situation.
What is the situation of Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke at Sevilla?
Super Eagles stars Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke were in the middle of the madness, but thankfully, they and their teammates escaped unscathed.
However, this is not the first time they have experienced such an issue. As such, it might be high time they consider an exit. For now, the abuse remains verbal, but an escalation cannot be ruled out.
The two Super Eagles stars have had a topsy-turvy tenure since joining Sevilla, marked by frequent tactical and managerial changes.
For the time being, they will be looking for assurances of their safety from the club while hoping that results start going in their favor soon.
