The NDC vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has commended the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria for speaking out on the economic hardship and insecurity facing the country.
Kwankwaso made the commendation in a statement posted on his social media accounts, including Facebook and X, on Tuesday night.
He praised the bishops for their courage in highlighting the challenges Nigerians are facing.
“I commend the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) for demonstrating courage and patriotism by drawing attention to the realities confronting our nation,” Kwankwaso stated.
According to him, the issues raised by the Church are not political but reflect the everyday struggles of Nigerians.
“Their concerns regarding the rising cost of living, worsening insecurity, declining public confidence, and the hardship faced by millions of Nigerians are neither partisan nor isolated; they reflect the daily experiences of ordinary citizens across every region of our country,” he said.
Kwankwaso noted that despite Nigeria’s wealth, many citizens are still suffering.
“Nigeria is blessed with abundant human and natural resources, yet millions of our people continue to struggle under the weight of economic hardship, unemployment, and insecurity,” he stated.
He listed other problems affecting the people.
“Poor access to quality education and healthcare, and diminishing opportunities,” the NDC vice-presidential candidate added.
He therefore called for urgent action from those in authority, saying, “These challenges demand urgent, sincere, and people-centred responses from those entrusted with leadership.”
Furthermore, the former Kano State governor urged Nigerians to continue engaging leaders constructively.
“I encourage all well-meaning Nigerians to continue constructively engaging the Federal Government and other leaders at all levels whenever the opportunity arises,” he stated.
He said citizens should push for accountability and better policies.
“Advocating for good governance, accountability, and policies that prioritise the security, welfare, and prosperity of our people,” he said.
Kwankwaso stressed that collective effort and responsible leadership are key to national progress.
“It is through such collective commitment and responsible leadership that we can build a more peaceful, united, and prosperous Nigeria,” he stated.
He ended the statement with a prayer for the country.
“May Almighty Allah continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Kwankwaso concluded.
