The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has distributed no fewer than 47,280 bags of rice to his constituents in Kano North Senatorial District as part of his support for the holy month of Ramadan and the forthcoming Sallah celebrations.
Barau flagged off the distribution of the commodity through his Chief of Staff, Muhammad Abdallah and other aides at Azman Rice Company in the Mariri area of Kano on Tuesday.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate, Ismail Mudashir, said the distribution was in line with the annual tradition of the Deputy President of the Senate to support his constituents during the holy month of Ramadan and Sallah.
In the first phase of the distribution, 47,280 households across the 13 LGs of the Kano North Senatorial District received a bag of rice each.
“The 47,280 bags were distributed across the local government areas, while other categories will follow afterwards. Given the importance of grassroots, Senator Barau decided they should be the first to benefit from the gesture, followed by other segments of society.
“This Ramadan intervention by the Deputy President of the Senate is aimed at supporting communities and fulfilling the religious obligation of feeding people during the holy month,” he said.
A cross-section of beneficiaries expressed delight and appreciation to the Deputy President of the Senate, describing him as a leader who consistently supports the masses across various sectors of human development.
Eid-el-Fitr is a major Islamic festival that marks the end of the 30-day dawn-to-sunset fasting during Ramadan.
The celebration is typically observed with special communal prayers, feasts, acts of charity, and visits to family and friends.
It falls on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar, following the sighting of the new moon, which officially signals the end of Ramadan.
