The Kaduna State Government has directed residents to observe the February edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
The government said the exercise, slated for February 28, 2026, is part of measures to strengthen environmental sustainability and curb disease outbreaks across the state.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, announced that all markets, schools, workplaces, motor parks, and other public places must remain closed within the stipulated hours.
“All markets, schools, workplaces, motor parks, and other public places are to remain closed during the exercise until 10:00 a.m.,” Maiyaki said.
He explained that the temporary restriction on movement is necessary to enable residents to clean their homes and surroundings without hindrance.
“The government reiterates its unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability, public health, and the maintenance of high sanitation standards across the state,” he added.
Also commenting, the Commissioner for Environment, Abubakar Buba, described the monthly sanitation exercise as a key component of the state’s preventive healthcare strategy.
“The monthly sanitation exercise is not merely a routine activity; it is a collective civic responsibility aimed at safeguarding public health, preventing disease outbreaks, and ensuring a cleaner and safer Kaduna State for all,” Buba stated.
He urged community leaders, market associations, transport unions, and residents to ensure full compliance within their respective domains.
Buba warned that defaulters would face sanctions, saying, “Defaulters will be liable to appropriate legal action in accordance with existing environmental laws and regulations.”
He further appealed to citizens to cooperate with relevant authorities, stressing that environmental cleanliness “remains a shared responsibility between the government and the people.”
