The Christ Hope Church has distributed food relief packages to widows of police officers in Lagos as part of its monthly community outreach programme aimed at supporting vulnerable families and promoting social welfare.

The event, held on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the church premises on Makinde Street, Alausa, Ikeja, forms part of the church’s “White Sunday” initiative — a monthly service dedicated to honouring and assisting widows. During each edition, the church supports around 100 widows with foodstuffs and financial aid.

Addressing the congregation, the Lead Pastor of The Christ Hope Church, Pastor Moses Abiola, said the initiative was part of the church’s broader commitment to improving the welfare and public image of the Nigeria Police Force through empowerment and social development programmes.

“Our goal is to restore confidence and respect for the police by supporting their families and helping them live with dignity,” Abiola said. “In December, we plan to organise an empowerment programme for 1,000 uniformed officers, during which food items and other essential materials will be distributed.”

The hunger relief initiative was attended by the Chairman of Food Bank Naija, Mr Kingsley Nnaji, who commended the church’s efforts and expressed his organisation’s commitment to similar causes. Nnaji stated that Food Bank Naija shares the church’s vision of tackling hunger and promoting food security in Nigeria.

Members of the church took part in the preparation and distribution of food items, which included staples such as rice, beans, and cooking oil. Beyond material support, the programme also offered a sense of community and emotional reassurance to the widows.

According to church representatives, plans are underway to expand the outreach to include healthcare support and sensitisation programmes focused on community engagement and police welfare.

“The Christ Hope Church is committed to serving the community, and we are grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of these widows,” a church spokesperson said.

The initiative, which has become a regular fixture in the church’s calendar, continues to strengthen ties between faith-based organisations and security agencies, while addressing some of the socio-economic challenges faced by widows of fallen officers in Lagos State.
