Former Super Eagles and Ajax midfielder Sunday Oliseh has weighed in on Paris Saint-Germain’s success after parting ways with Kylian Mbappe two seasons ago, Soccernet.ng reports.

The French Superstar declined a new contract from PSG at the start of the 2023/2024 season after the club turned down Real Madrid’s €120m offer.

In that season, Paris Saint-Germain got to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League, and were knocked out by Edin Terzic’s Borussia Dortmund, who would then lose the final to Mbappe’s club to be.

The French forward joined Real Madrid without a transfer fee, but Paris Saint-Germain are now in consecutive UEFA Champions League final, while Los Blancos will be going another season without silverware.

Sunday Oliseh explains Paris Saint-Germain’s success without Mbappe

The former Super Eagles captain believes the transition of Le Parisien’s attack from the trio of Neymar, Messi and Kylian Mbappe to the current crop of players under Luis Enrique tutelage was a big gamble that paid off from the club owners.

Given the attacking trio weren’t going to press from the front like Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia do, Oliseh believes Mbappe leaving Paris birthed the rise of the fierce team we see today.

“When PSG lose the ball in the previous team, no one was pressing. They have now sacrificed egos, the superstars. The team is now the star,” the ex-Juventus man said on the Sunday Oliseh global Football insights show.

“In fact, I’ll say that Mbappe did them a favour because prior to his exit, it was said that he called the shots at the club, but you don’t hear it anymore now.

“Players are now saying if they don’t run, they don’t play. When you hear things like that from Dembele who’s the best player in the World, that tells you that the club has totally evolved.

“This is the evolution of football. They’re now in the UEFA Champions League final with practically the same team for 24 months,” Sunday Oliseh concluded.
