A non-governmental organisation, Think Secure, has announced the launch of its Cybersecurity Scholarship Programme, designed to nurture the next generation of cybersecurity professionals in Nigeria.

In partnership with HAUT, a leading institution for technology education, Think Secure will award scholarships worth ₦200,000 each to five young Nigerians pursuing studies in cybersecurity.

According to the organisation, the initiative is part of a broader mission to make cybersecurity education more accessible, while raising awareness on the rapidly growing digital threats facing communities and businesses nationwide.

Speaking on the launch, Founder and Executive Director of Think Secure, Mr. Joye Shonubi, emphasised that “cybersecurity extends beyond technology to human safety.” “Cybersecurity is not just about protecting systems; it’s about protecting people,” he said.

Shonubi stated that by equipping young Nigerians with the right knowledge, the organisation was investing in safer communities, stronger businesses, and a more secure digital future for the country.

The scholarship comes at a critical time when Nigeria is experiencing a surge in cybercrime — from online scams to large-scale data breaches.

Experts have warned that the shortage of trained cybersecurity professionals has heightened the vulnerability of businesses, government institutions, and individuals to sophisticated attacks.

Through this initiative, Think Secure seeks to bridge the nation’s cybersecurity talent gap by offering scholarships, launching nationwide digital safety campaigns, and providing community-focused training programmes aimed at improving public awareness and resilience.

Recipients of the scholarship will undergo hands-on training, mentorship, and industry-aligned coursework through HAUT’s cybersecurity curriculum — equipping them with practical skills for impactful careers in one of the world’s fastest-growing industries.

Shonubi noted that the long-term vision of Think Secure goes beyond supporting a few individuals, stressing that “the ripple effects of this programme will reach far beyond the scholarship recipients. Each trained professional will be equipped to strengthen Nigeria’s cybersecurity infrastructure, support local businesses, and mentor others — building a culture of digital safety across the nation.”

With this initiative, Think Secure positions itself as a key player in Nigeria’s pursuit of digital resilience and cyber awareness.

“Cybersecurity awareness should not be a privilege reserved for experts. It should be a life skill accessible to everyone who uses the internet,” Shonubi added.
