Operation Feed Africa Initiative (OFA) has solidified its position as a formidable force in the fight against hunger, poverty, and social inequality across Nigeria and beyond through its unwavering dedication and transformative programmes.
The Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) also pledged to reshape lives and inspire hope in underprivileged communities. The Executive Director, Josephine Akinpelu, said its mission remains to nourish and empower the continent. “Over the past six months, we have made notable progress in combating hunger, fostering sustainable agriculture, and uplifting communities across Africa.”
She noted that their report highlights the distribution of millions of food packages to vulnerable populations, the establishment of numerous community farms, and the rollout of innovative agricultural training programs. These efforts she said have not only provided immediate relief but have also laid the foundation for long-term food security and economic resilience.
“The relentless pursuit of a hunger-free, empowered, and resilient Africa demonstrates what collective effort can achieve. As we celebrate these milestones, we must commit to doing even more because every life touched is a step toward a brighter future,” Akinpelu said.
She recounted that in January, OFA’s Youth Empowerment Training with Bomulo Educational Foundation marked a significant milestone for the organisation’s youth development agenda.
Her words: “Partnering with Bomulo, OFA equipped 50 teenagers in Ogun State with essential skills in goal setting, vision board creation, and career guidance. These young minds, who once navigated uncertain futures, are now armed with clarity and purpose ready to carve their paths toward success.
“This initiative exemplifies OFA’s commitment to nurturing the next generation, recognizing that empowering youth is fundamental to breaking cycles of poverty. to engage with the impactful stories from this program.
In partnership with State Health Centres and Pregnancy Lounge, OFA launched impactful maternal and child health outreach programmes in Lagos, Ogun, and Bauchi states. Over 100 mothers and children received basic medical care, maternal health education, and vital supplies each visit filled with smiles, gratitude, and renewed hope.”
These outreaches she said addressed critical gaps in healthcare access for vulnerable populations, emphasizing the importance of maternal and child health as a foundation for community resilience.
The Feed the Future weekly school program continues to be a cornerstone of OFA’s mission to eradicate child hunger and promote education. Operating across Lagos, Ogun, and Rivers states, the initiative provides nutritious meals, hygiene education, and encouragement to children from low-income families.
Akinpelu said the programme not only nourishes bodies but also fuels dreams ensuring children remain in school, healthy and eager to learn. In a bold move that underscores OFA’s expanding vision, Akinpelu noted that the organisation launched its first transnational outreach in Ghana from February 18 to 22, 2025. Titled “Love Beyond Borders,” the initiative reached communities in Weija, Gbawe, and Ashabotwe, providing food packs to families and education on menstrual health for schoolgirls.
“Partnering with Zizi Foundation and RedTent Health Initiative, this outreach symbolises OFA’s commitment to global solidarity—feeding bodies and empowering minds across borders. The success of this initiative paves the way for more international collaborations.
“On March 21, OFA commemorated International Women’s Day 2025 with a vibrant community event in Lagos themed ‘Accelerate Action’. The event spotlighted women’s empowerment through financial literacy workshops, panel discussions, and resource sharing.”
