Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was on target for Galatasaray as they secured an impressive 3-0 victory over city rivals Basaksehir, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen returned to the starting lineup as Galatasaray welcomed their Istanbul neighbors to Rams Park on Saturday.

The Super Eagles star entered the fixture in superb form, having been involved in at least one goal in each of his previous nine appearances for the Cimbom across all competitions.

While the Cimbom were heavy favorites to claim all three points due to their superior quality, it took some time for them to find their rhythm.

Despite dominating the first half with ten attempts on goal, they failed to register a single shot on target.

The game truly caught fire in the second half. A Basaksehir defender was sent off for a second bookable offense in the 55th minute, and that proved to be the moment the wheels came off for the visitors.

Wilfried Singo opened the scoring in the 57th minute, and just nine minutes later, Osimhen struck. He latched onto a pinpoint cross from Yunus Akgun, controlled the ball expertly, and struck it with venom into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

With Basaksehir deflated, coach Okan Buruk withdrew Osimhen and several other key stars to rest them ahead of their crucial trip to Anfield for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League clash in midweek.

Galatasaray wrapped up the scoring in the 84th minute through highly-rated youngster Renato Nhaga.

The 3-0 result further cemented Galatasaray’s status as the best club in Istanbul at the moment.

According to Opta, the Super Eagles star has become the first player since records began to be involved in a goal (either scoring or assisting) in nine consecutive Super Lig matches. This milestone only serves to highlight Osimhen’s immense importance to the side.

Next up for the Cimbom is their high-stakes Champions League fixture against Liverpool, where they will be hoping Osimhen can deliver once again
