Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has responded to criticism of her unconventional movie promotion style, insisting that her success does not hinder the progress of others in the industry.

Akindele, who currently holds the record as Nigeria’s highest-grossing filmmaker, addressed the issue in a series of Instagram posts on Saturday. Known for incorporating dancing and comedic skits into her marketing campaigns, she argued that the entertainment industry is vast enough for everyone to thrive.

“I’m not the one hindering your progress. The sky is big enough for everybody to fly,” she wrote, encouraging colleagues to create their own promotional paths rather than resorting to jealousy.

The actress urged fellow filmmakers to explore alternative strategies for promoting their work, stressing that opportunities in the industry are abundant.

“Go ahead and create alternative promotion or marketing strategies for your business, or hire a company to handle it. You can do it! The opportunities are endless, and everyone has their own path. I’m focused on mine, and I have faith in God’s plan for me,” she added.

Box Office Success

Akindele’s remarks come as she continues to dominate Nollywood’s box office. She holds the top three highest-grossing films in Nigeria:

  • Behind the Scenes (2025), which has earned over ₦2.4 billion.
  • Everybody Loves Jenifer (2024), grossing ₦1.88 billion.
  • A Tribe Called Judah (2023), which made ₦1.4 billion.

Her achievements have cemented her reputation as a trailblazer in Nollywood, with her marketing style playing a significant role in her commercial success.
