
The Federal Road Safety Corps, RS5.3 Anambra State Sector Command, has secured the conviction of 35 traffic offenders during a mobile court sitting at the Sector Command Headquarters in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
According to a press statement released on Saturday by the Sector Public Education Officer, FRSC Anambra State Command, Margaret Onabe, the traffic offenders were convicted on Friday for various infractions.
Onabe said the exercise forms part of the Corps’ sustained enforcement strategy aimed at reducing road traffic crashes through strict compliance with traffic regulations and enhanced operational visibility across the state.
She said, “The Mobile Court session was presided over by Her Worship, Chief Magistrate Adaora N. Okoli, who heard cases involving offenders apprehended during special enforcement operations carried out by FRSC personnel within the Command’s operational corridors.
“At the end of the proceedings, 44 offenders were arraigned before the court, of which 35 were convicted, while nine were discharged and acquitted.
“A total of 72 traffic offences were recorded against the offenders, while no offender was sentenced to imprisonment.
“The offences prosecuted included Seatbelt Violation, Speed Limit Device Violation, driver’s licence violation, Overloading, Tyre Violation, Vehicle Licence Violation, Number Plate Violation and other related traffic offences.
“The Mobile Court proceedings were conducted in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere without any operational challenges.
“Adequate security was provided by armed personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, ensuring the smooth conduct of the exercise.”
Speaking during the court session, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, reaffirmed the commitment of the Sector Command to the strict enforcement of traffic laws and the prosecution of offenders as a deterrent against reckless driving and other violations that endanger lives on Nigerian roads.
Asekhauno further urged motorists to always comply with traffic regulations, ensure their vehicles are properly documented, and adopt safe driving practices in order to contribute to the reduction of road traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities.
The Sector Commander reiterated that it will continue to intensify enforcement operations, public enlightenment campaigns, and strategic collaborations with relevant stakeholders to ensure safer roads across Anambra State.
