Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has sealed a permanent transfer to newly-promoted side Coventry City ahead of the 2026/2027 campaign under Frank Lampard, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old joined the Sky Blues on loan back in February after playing just 88 Premier League minutes for Brentford in the first half of the season under new manager Keith Andrews.

Due to his lack of playing time, Onyeka capitalised on a brilliant AFCON 2027 campaign in Morocco, joining Coventry City on loan, with the option to make the deal permanent if they gain promotion to the English Premier League.

The former Midtjylland midfielder played 14 games for Coventry, scoring one goal and assisting another as Lampard’s men breezed through the Championship, winning the league title with two games left to play.

Full breakdown of Frank Onyeka’s Coventry City transfer

According to Coventry City’s Official website, the AFCON 2023 silver-medallist completed a move to the club for an undiclosed fee, and the term of the contract has been hidden from the general public.

Speaking after sealing a permanent move, the 28-year-old midfielder revealed his plans for the club, claiming he wants to avoid a return to the EFL Championship.

“I’m really excited for the new season with Coventry.

“When I first joined last season, I came here with two goals and that was to win the Championship and help Coventry get promoted to the Premier League.

“I’m really happy to now be a Coventry player back in the Premier League.

“I will give everything to the team, fight for every ball, fight for my teammates and bring my experience.

“My ambition now is to help the Club stay in the Premier League and finish as high as we can,” Onyeka concluded.

Brentford’s Football Director, Phil Giles, lauded Onyeka’s commitment to the Bees during his time at the Gtech Community Stadium.

“Frank has been with us since our first Premier League game, and has always shown fantastic commitment, work rate and loyalty during his time here,” the 50-year-old said in quotes revealed by Brentford’s official website.

“Ultimately, he probably didn’t start as many games as he’d have liked, which is why the opportunity for him to move to Coventry made sense for all parties.

“He made a big contribution to their promotion and has earned his chance at becoming a regular Premier League starter with them.

“Frank will always be welcome back at Brentford and we wish him well for next season with Coventry.”
