As part efforts aimed at improving the quality of lives of Nigerians, GTCO Plc. has launched the ‘Waste for Gas’ project, designed to assist low-income households and empower women in underserved communities in Obafemi Owode Local Council of Ogun State. A total number of 3,000 gas cylinders were distributed.
Director, Administration & Supply, Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Odeyinka Temitayo, who represented Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, described the gesture as laudable. He disclosed the governor had embarked on various programmes to rid the environment of pollution. To him, ‘if other banks can emulate this, Ogun State will be a haven of beauty. “
Chief Communication Officer, GTCO Plc, Oyinade Adegite disclosed 3,000 3kg gas cylinders along with burners, were distributed.
Chairman Obafemi Owode Local Council, Ogunsola Adesina ‘Lanre also commended GTCO for the programme, saying this was the first time a bank would reach out to the local council.
He also encouraged the bank to establish a branch in the counci to boost economic activities.
The Olu of Owode-Egba Oba Kolawole Aremu Sowemimo, however cautioned against selling the gas cookers. He assured, ‘we are going to create gas stations where you can refill at discounted prices. We are meeting with the Chairman of the Local Government concerning this.’
Iyaloja General Obafemi Owode Local Government, Chief Ganiyat Oyelakin said the beneficiaries must exercise caution while using the gas cookers in order to forestall accidents.
The beneficiaries were also enlightened about the Do’s and Don’ts of using the cooking gas cylinders.
Expressing their gratitude, the beneficiaries commeded GTCO for coming to their aid.
One of the beneficiaries Taiwo Suraju said ‘we are excited. This gesture will make us stop using firewood for cooking.’
