Dangote Cement, Gboko plant in Benue State has reached out to orphans, juvenile inmates, women and the aged during its sustainability week.
During the week, the company visited the orphanage at Mkar in Gboko Local Council as well as the Juvenile Correctional Centre at Ubangaji, also in Gboko.
The high point of the week-long event was the free Medical Outreach for the predominantly rural host community of the company at Amua, Ukpekpe council ward where the people appealed for a hospital to cater for their health needs.
Enthralled by the gesture, the traditional ruler of Ukpekpe, His Royal Highness, Igba Tsegba, appealed for “a permanent health facility for the people instead of the one day yearly medical outreach.”
Speaking, Deputy General Manager/Head Social Performance of the Dangote Cement, Gboko plant, Dr Eugene Ivase, said the gesture was part of the company’s policy of reaching out to the most vulnerable in the society.
Dr Ivase described the sustainability week as a success. On his part, Head, Administration and Management of the Dangote Cement, Gboko plant, Jonathan Kunde said that the company was trying to impact the society in its own way.
Kunde said the company has made it a deliberate policy to reach out to the most vulnerable in the community especially women, children and the aged.
The Plant Director, Louise Raj, also assured residents that the management would consider their requests.
Mr Raj said part of the aim of the social interventions was to foster a mutually beneficial company – host relationship.
