Men of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency on Sunday swiftly responded to a fire outbreak that occurred at a telecommunications mast site along Maple Leaf Drive, Alalubosa GRA, Alesinloye area of Ibadan, preventing what could have been a major disaster.

According to a statement from the agency, the distress call was received at 9:50 a.m. through a telephone report by one Mr. Abiola, concerning an Airtel cell site that had caught fire.

The team, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Bamidele Samsudeen, immediately mobilised and arrived at the scene to discover that the generator and personnel cabin within the telecom site were already engulfed in flames.

The firefighters quickly swung into action, successfully putting out the fire and preventing it from spreading to other sensitive communication equipment.

“No casualty was recorded in the incident, and preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by electrical sparks from the generator,” the statement read.

Reacting to the incident, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman, Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, commended the officers for their prompt response and professionalism.

He urged residents, businesses, and especially owners of critical infrastructure such as telecommunication sites, to ensure that all necessary fire-fighting devices are installed and properly maintained to prevent future occurrences.

Akinwande also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report fire incidents promptly with accurate location details to enable quick intervention by firefighters.

“We must all be conscious of fire risks and take proactive steps to protect valuable equipment and lives. Early reporting and correct addresses help us respond faster and save more,” he said.
