No fewer than four persons lost their lives in a fatal auto crash that occurred at Itaogbolu along the Akure-Ado highway in the Akure North Local Council Area of Ondo State.
The accident occurred when a commercial bus and a loaded truck, travelling in opposite directions along the route, had a head-on collision.
With two male adults, one female adult, and two female children giving up the ghost on the spot, eyewitnesses described the scene as gory.
One of the eyewitnesses stated that the driver of the bus remained trapped behind the wheel, with other passengers injured in the accident, while the crash caused heavy gridlock on the highway.
According to the source, it took the help of motorists and nearby residents to rescue some survivors from the wreckage.
“The situation is critical. Emergency vehicles and personnel are needed to manage the tragedy and prevent further loss of life,” the source stated.
Confirming the accident, the State Sector Commander of FRSC, Ibitoye, said the accident was caused by excessive speeding.
He said the remains of the victims had been evacuated by the command and deposited at the mortuary of the State Specialist Hospital, Akure.
