Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi is a major doubt for Porto ahead of their Portuguese Cup clash against Sporting CP this Wednesday, April 22, according to Soccernet.ng.

Sanusi has been a pivotal figure for the Dragons this season. After struggling to secure a consistent spot in the starting eleven last year, he has evolved into one of coach Farioli’s most trusted lieutenants.

This season, he has featured in 25 matches across all competitions, contributing one goal and two assists.

Last weekend, Sanusi was a standout performer for the Dragons in their 2-0 victory over Tondela. However, he was forced off in the 63rd minute after appearing to sustain an injury.

With Porto preparing to host Sporting CP at the Estádio do Dragão, Sanusi remains sidelined. According to Mercado Azul, the defender is dealing with a sprained right ankle, making his availability for Wednesday’s fixture highly unlikely.

The gama between Porto and Sporting CP is usually a big fixture in Portugal, as both of them are the biggest and most successful in the country.

This season, they are at the forefront of the title run, with the Dragons topping the table, while Sporting follow closely, eight points away with a game in hand. As such, both teams will need their best legs.

If Sanusi is not passed fit on time, it will be a major blow for coach Farioli. This game is not just a derby, it is the semifinal of the Portuguese Cup. Sporting hold a 1-0 advantage from the first leg. As such, Porto are condemned to win this fixture.

Zaidu Sanusi’s Future in the Balance at Porto

Zaidu Sanusi has been exceptional for Porto this season, maintaining a high level of performance throughout his six-year tenure at the club.

Despite his form, the Super Eagles star’s future remains uncertain. With only one year left on his current contract, Sanusi is nearing the window where he can legally negotiate with other clubs.

While Porto remains impressed by the 28-year-old’s contributions, there have been no confirmed reports regarding contract extension talks. The club may table an offer before the start of next season, but given Sanusi’s impressive campaign, he will certainly not be short of options elsewhere.
