On Monday, more defections affected the Labour Party (LP) in Edo State, as Martins Azekhumen Okoukoni, a former Governorship Aspirant for the September 2024 election, officially resigned from the party.
This was contained in his resignation letter, addressed to the Labour Party Chairman in Ward 3, Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state, and made available to newsmen in Benin.
The LP chieftain stated that his resignation became necessary following a period of deep personal reflection and the need to pursue personal growth and development through humanitarian and charitable initiatives.
“This decision has not come lightly, but it is one I have taken after deep personal reflection, that at this stage of my life and career, I have chosen to fully dedicate myself to the growth and development of my humanitarian and charitable initiatives.
“My passion lies in supporting vulnerable communities, empowering the less privileged and contributing to social change through direct community action,” he said.
He noted that he has deep respect for the opposition party’s values and vision and wishes the leadership and all members continued success in their efforts to build a better Nigeria.
“I remain grateful for the opportunity to have been a member. I will continue to hold deep respect for the party’s values and vision and wish the leadership and all members continued success in their efforts to build a better Nigeria.
“Please consider this letter as my formal notice of resignation, and I kindly request that my name be removed from all official party registers and communications,” Okoukoni said.
Recall that the Senator representing Edo South and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Neda Imasuen, recently dumped the Labour Party for the ruling All Progressives Congress.
