Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has ruled out complacency in the running of his administration as the state enters 2026, pledging accelerated consolidation of achievements recorded over the past two and a half years.

In his New Year broadcast to the people of the state, Mbah described 2026 as a year of “quantum leap,” stressing that his administration’s optimism was firmly rooted in tangible progress already made across key sectors.

“There will be no room for complacency. Our optimism is not abstract; it is grounded in the concrete work we have done,” the governor said, urging the people of the state to remain united and hopeful in the new year.

Reflecting on his administration’s record, Mbah highlighted the revival of moribund public assets, reforms in the transport and water sectors, improved security architecture, expansion of road and tourism infrastructure, and gains in education and agriculture.

He also cited increased investment inflow and a rise in visitors to the state as evidence of growing confidence in Enugu.

However, the governor warned that sustaining progress required even greater commitment in the coming year.

“It is far easier to rise than it is to remain standing. 2026 is not a victory lap; it is a continuation of a journey that is far from finished. We must build carefully for posterity and resist the comfort that comes with success,” he said.

Outlining his administration’s priorities for 2026, Mbah announced that all urban roads across Enugu’s cities would be paved and upgraded with proper drainage, walkways and, in many cases, new streetlights to enhance safety.

He said water supply would also receive a major boost through ongoing projects such as the 9th Mile 24/7 Water Scheme, the Ajali water scheme revamp and improvements at Oji River, aimed at delivering clean water to more households.

In the education sector, the governor disclosed that all 260 Smart Schools across the state would become fully operational in 2026, providing digital learning facilities, science laboratories, renewable energy and free daily meals to over 300,000 pupils.

He added that each of the state’s 260 wards would also have a fully equipped and functional Primary Healthcare Centre to improve access to quality healthcare.

Mbah further announced plans to expand operations at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, including the growth of Enugu Air’s fleet to 20 aircraft, a move he said would stimulate trade, tourism and investment.

On security, the governor issued a stern warning to criminals, vowing that his administration would not relent in its efforts to keep the state safe.

“No crime committed will go undetected or unresolved. We will track and prosecute offenders, and we will never drop our guard,” he declared.

He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive development, assuring residents that public funds would continue to be deployed strictly for projects that improve lives. While calling for the sustained support of citizens, Mbah also urged them to remain engaged and to hold public institutions accountable.

“This year demands focus and commitment from all of us. Our resolve to leave no one behind remains firm,” he said.
