Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Monisade Afuye, has cautioned political appointees in the state against acts of disloyalty, warning that betrayal could undermine their personal and political reputations.

Speaking on Sunday at the Government House Chapel in Ado Ekiti during a thanksgiving service held in memory of her late mother, Olori Esther Adegboye, Afuye urged political officeholders to remain committed to Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration. Olori Adegboye passed away on February 18, 2025, and was buried in Ikere Ekiti on June 27.

The deputy governor said appointees should remain focused on their responsibilities and avoid being swayed by public criticism of the governor’s leadership.

“There is nothing the governor can do that can please the adversaries. That is why you are seeing those negative comments coming, you can’t but expect them. To those of us who are inside, let us be loyal and do what is right at all times,” she said.

She described political appointments as opportunities for service, regardless of their size or prominence. “Let us be committed to the government in whatever position we are given. You might be holding a small position, be contented with it and be loyal to that cause,” Afuye said.

Referring to the upcoming 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, Afuye expressed confidence in the outcome. “I know that by this time of next year, we will be jubilating and rejoicing in the life of Ekiti State and our Governor by the grace of God,” she said.

The deputy governor also used the occasion to thank Governor Oyebanji, the First Lady, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, members of the political class, traditional rulers, and Ekiti indigenes for their support during her mother’s funeral.

The event featured a sermon and prayers led by Government House Chaplain, Pastor Segun Awolumate, who prayed for the deceased’s family, the state government, and the nation. The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Ekiti State, Dr. Emmanuel Aribasoye, also spoke at the service, urging citizens to live with integrity and uphold values that would contribute to national development.
