Community leaders and students have commended Egbin Power for sustaining its annual scholarship programme for students in its host communities.

The commendation came during the 11th edition of the scholarship award ceremony held at the Egbin Power Clubhouse Auditorium in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The programme provides educational support to students from communities hosting the power generation company and is aimed at promoting academic development.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Odofin of Ijede, High Chief Babatunde Ogunmuyiwa, who represented the Alajede of Ijede Kingdom, Oba Adefarasin Hassan, praised the company for sustaining the initiative.

“This scholarship has changed the story for many students and families in our communities.

“It inspires our young people to work hard and dream higher. We thank the management and staff of Egbin Power for their dedication and focus on ensuring the continuity of the scholarship programme,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the six Community Liaison Officers representing the host communities, Wahab Bello also commended Egbin Power’s investment in education.

“Egbin Power has demonstrated that it cares about the future of our children and the development of our communities. That is why the scholarship has come to stay.

“We commend the organisers for their hard work and thoroughness, and we urge the beneficiaries to make the best of this opportunity,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power, Mokhtar Bounour, said the company remained committed to supporting education and expanding opportunities for young people.

“Education is one of the strongest tools for change. The scholarship programme is a deliberate, long-term investment in young people who will become the leaders, professionals, and change-makers of tomorrow.

“At Egbin Power, we create sustainable pathways for lasting impact, and we are proud to power that progress through this platform,” he said.

The beneficiaries also expressed appreciation for the support.

Royalty Olasunkanmi, who emerged as the top scholar in the Host Community Category, encouraged other students to work harder academically.

Another beneficiary, Mercy, who emerged as the top scholar in the Academic Excellence Award Category, said the scholarship had encouraged her to pursue her academic ambitions.

The company said the scholarship programme forms part of its community development initiatives in education, healthcare, youth empowerment and infrastructure.
