Over 25,000 residents across 19 communities in Iuleha, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, have nowhere to turn to as Government Hospital Uzebba, the only government hospital in the region, deteriorates.

The condition of the Government Hospital Uzebba was revealed in a statement released by a civil society organisation (CSO), MonITNG.

“This hospital is the only government-owned healthcare facility serving over 25,000 residents across 19 communities in Iuleha Clan — including Oshofoi, Eruere, Őbőla, Okagbòrò, Ivbi-ughuru, Ukhusè Oke, Ukhusè Osi, Uzebba, Avbiosi (old & new sites), Ohis, Ugbegu, Ikpeyan, Òromen, Okeigho, Avbiòghóla, Ivbiòdohen, Oah, and Ilojeentire,” the CSO revealed.

It added that Uzebba is the hometown of the current Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Julius Ihonvbere.
According to MonITNG, the healthcare facility is riddled with crumbling walls, rusting hospital beds, overgrown weeds, broken windows, and damaged equipment.

Additionally, the hospital lacks electricity, running water, and an ambulance, which it struggles to operate.

The impact of the decay of the healthcare facility is appalling, the CSO further noted. Expectant mothers residing in the region are forced to travel miles on poor roads to deliver their babies, while elderly people and children have nowhere to turn for medical treatment.

MonITNG further appealed to the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, and Ihonvbere to urgently prioritise the renovation and revitalisation of Uzebba General Hospital.

“The people of Iuleha have suffered enough. They deserve dignity, access to quality healthcare, and a government that truly listens.

“The story of Uzebba is not just about a hospital; it’s about the value we place on human lives. Over 20,000 people are waiting for action. The time to act is now.”
