Noah Atubolu has completed his move from SC Freiburg to Eintracht Frankfurt, giving Super Eagles fans another reason to watch the Bundesliga club closely, Soccernet.ng reports.
Frankfurt confirmed the 24-year-old goalkeeper’s arrival on Friday. The deal is an initial season-long loan from Freiburg. Frankfurt also have a purchase option, which can become a compulsory transfer if certain conditions are met, according to BILD.
Atubolu now joins Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika at Frankfurt. The 25-year-old midfielder signed from Club Brugge earlier this month on a contract that runs until June 2031. Onyedika wears No. 25.

Super Eagles: Why Atubolu matters to Nigeria
Born in Freiburg, Germany, on May 25, 2002, Atubolu has Nigerian heritage and is eligible to represent the Super Eagles. He has played for Germany at youth level, including the Under-21 team, but he has not played a competitive senior match for Germany. That keeps the door open for a possible switch to Nigeria under FIFA’s eligibility rules.
Nigeria has followed his progress as the goalkeeper developed into one of Freiburg’s key players. His 2025-26 season was especially strong. He played 49 matches in all competitions, with 11 clean sheets.
Atubolu joined Freiburg’s academy at 13 and spent 11 years there. He made his Bundesliga debut in the 2023-24 season and finished his Freiburg spell with 125 competitive appearances and 38 clean sheets.

Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche called Atubolu a strong and ambitious goalkeeper with experience and potential. Atubolu said he was happy to arrive and eager to start the new challenge.
The move also places him in a new Bundesliga environment under coach Adi Hütter. Frankfurt will expect him to compete for the goalkeeper position as they prepare for the 2026-27 campaign.
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has an abundance of goalkeepers to choose from in Maduka Okoye, Stanley Nwabali and Arthur Okonkwo among others. The addition of Atubolu, though, could raise the team’s profile to new heights as the former African champions aim to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup.
