The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Akinwumi Adesina, has mourned the passing of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who was announced dead on Sunday in London.
Adesina, on his X handle, said Buhari’s life was marked by national patriotism and selfless service. He lauded the late president for his support in his career.
The AfDB president also mourned Ọba Sikiru Kayọde Adetọna, the Awùjalẹ̀ of the Ijẹbu kingdom in Ogun State, who passed away on Monday.
He described Oba Adetona as one of the longest-serving and most respected traditional rulers in Nigeria.
According to him, the passing of Oba Adetona is a huge loss to the people of Ijebu, Ogun State, and Nigeria, which will take a long time to come to terms with.
The Guardian reports that the monarch was enthroned on April 2, 1960, making him one of the longest-reigning traditional rulers in the country.
According to Adesina, the passing of the two figures was a double tragedy for the nation that would create a huge vacuum.
