Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen took over the headlines with a hat-trick against Ajax in the UEFA Champions League last night, Soccernet.ng reports.

His performance has drawn praise from teammates like Ilkay Gundogan and Mario Lemina, and now, Ivorian defender Wilfred Singo has joined the party.

After grabbing the man-of-the-match award at the Johan Cruijff Arena, Osimhen has now been nominated for the UEFA Champions League Player of the Week, alongside Arsenal’s Mikel Merino and Manchester City’s Phil Foden.

Wilfried Singo lauds Victor Osimhen

The 24-year-old centre-back joined Okan Buruk’s side from AS Monaco over the summer, but missed the last month of action due to a hamstring injury.

He played 90 minutes for the first time since September against Ajax, and he was delighted to be on the pitch again.

“I am very happy with the victory here tonight. We got this result from great teamwork,” Singo said in quotes revealed by Galatasaray’s official website.

“We got this away win. We did a very good job of improving my fitness after my injury.

Everyone who took care of me worked at the highest level. I think I got a good result after the injury.”

Quizzed about how much of an influence Victor Osimhen wields on his Galatasaray teammates, Singo said:

“Osimhen is a very big player and scorer. I’m so happy to play with him.

“He’s winning us a lot of games with his goals. I’m so happy to play with him.”

Osimhen became the first Galatasaray player to score a brace in back-to-back Champions League matches, while also being the second to score a hat-trick in Europe’s top competition for the CimBom Aslan.
