Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday, called on Nigerians to actively participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stressing that civic participation is the foundation of democracy.

Atiku made this appeal during a courtesy visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, at his palace in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The visit was part of a high-level delegation that included former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai; former Senate President, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu; and former Cross River State Governor, Liyel Imoke. They were warmly received by Oba Ladoja and his Oloris.

Speaking during the visit, Atiku congratulated the monarch on his ascension to the throne, describing the Olubadan as a symbol of peace and unity.

“We have always looked forward to this day. We congratulate you on your ascension. We wish you a long, prosperous, and peaceful reign. Ibadan will continue to thrive under your leadership,” Atiku said.

He noted that although they were unable to attend the monarch’s official coronation, their visit was to personally convey their goodwill and respect for the Olubadan.

Turning to national issues, Atiku emphasised the importance of political engagement, especially in light of the forthcoming general elections.

“To all Nigerians, I say: come out, register, and vote. Your voice and your vote matter,” he said.

The former Vice President’s visit comes at a time of growing political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, and his message is seen as part of broader efforts to mobilise support and encourage democratic participation across the country.

The Olubadan, in his response, thanked the delegation for the visit and extended his blessings and prayers for a united and peaceful Nigeria.
