Arsenal vs Leeds United’s is set to take center stage at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, October 10, 2026, when the division’s form team from last season meets the form team of this one.

Arsenal sit second after five matches, Leeds fifth, and while Leeds are unbeaten in the league, Arsenal have lost once, which was before the international break.

The contest’s most revealing subplot sits inside Arsenal’s own attack.

Eberechi Eze, born in London to Nigerian parents before committing to England at youth level, has become Mikel Arteta’s preferred route through a Leeds defence built to stay compact through the middle, and whether he can keep turning inside on his marker down Arsenal’s left could decide how open this game becomes.

The Nigerian Angle

There are several Nigerian angles to this game. The Gunners have three players in their team, who have Nigerian origin – Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, and Noni Madueke. But all three of them opted to play for England at international level. Leeds also have Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor, who snubbed the Super Eagles in favour of England and Switzerland respectively.

However, the main Nigerian angle to this game is the fact that Arsenal have called up two players of Nigerian origin from the academy – Ife Ibrahim and Emerson Nwaneri – to join the first team to train. As of now, these players are still eligible to play for the Super Eagles due to the fact that they have not played for the English senior team yet.

With these players training with the first team, there is a chance that they will make the matchday squad and possibly get their debut if the Gunners can secure a big lead.

Arsenal vs Leeds: Recent Games

Arsenal have won three of their last four Premier League matches, a run built on a gritty 2-1 win away at Chelsea and a comfortable 2-0 victory at home to Sunderland either side of a one-sided 1-0 win over Aston Villa, before a chastening 3-0 defeat away at Brighton exposed how open Arteta’s side can look when pressed high and denied their usual rhythm in midfield.

Leeds have not lost in the league in five outings, a sequence that reads a 1-0 win away at Nottingham Forest, draws at Brentford and Brighton, a thumping 4-1 home win over Newcastle United, and a goalless draw against Crystal Palace in which Dominic Calvert-Lewin, their top scorer with three goals in five appearances, was kept off the scoresheet for the first time since the opening weeks of the season.

Arsenal’s winning run against Leeds now stands at eight consecutive league meetings, though only the last five carry fully sourced scorelines: a 4-0 win at Elland Road on January 31, 2026, a 5-0 demolition at home on August 23, 2025, a 4-1 home win in April 2023, a 1-0 away win in October 2022 settled by a thirty-fifth-minute Bukayo Saka goal, and a 2-1 home win in May 2022.

Across those five games Arsenal have scored sixteen goals and conceded two. The all-time Premier League head-to-head across 108 meetings reads 45 wins for Arsenal, 25 draws and 38 wins for Leeds, with Arsenal’s goal difference standing at 178 to 143.

Key battle: Eze against Bogle down Arsenal’s inside-left channel

Eze operates on the left side of Arsenal’s three-man attacking midfield line, cutting inside from wide positions rather than hugging the touchline, which puts him in direct opposition to whoever Leeds assign to track that run, most likely right wing-back Jayden Bogle in Leeds’ back-three system.

Bogle has been one of Leeds’ most reliable defenders this season, but tucking infield to follow Eze risks opening the exact wide gap that Timber or an overlapping full-back would look to exploit, and how Farke balances that trade-off could define Arsenal’s best route to goal.

A second duel worth watching sits further forward, where Viktor Gyökeres, restored to Arsenal’s attack after Kai Havertz’s early-season injury absence, comes up against a Leeds back three of Elvedi, Muharemovic and whichever of Justin or Gudmundsson fills the third centre-back slot.

Gyökeres thrives on direct balls in behind rather than build-up play through his feet, and Leeds’ centre-backs will be wary of stepping out of their line and leaving space for exactly that kind of run.

Team news: Rice available for Arsenal, Wilson a doubt for Leeds

Declan Rice has trained through his hamstring concern and is expected to start, a significant boost given his role screening Arsenal’s back four, while Ben White and Cristhian Mosquera have both been cleared after fitness scares earlier in the week.

William Saliba remains out with a lower back problem, Christos Tzolis is sidelined with a hamstring strain, and Kai Havertz is a major doubt with a thigh injury that has kept him out of Arsenal’s last several matches.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Raya; Timber, Gabriel, Calafiori, Mosquera; Rice, Guimarães; Saka, Ødegaard, Eze; Gyökeres.

Leeds will check on Harry Wilson, who has trained with the group this week after a quad issue and could feature from the bench, while Daniel James remains out with a back injury picked up on Wales duty and Joe Rodon is sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Jean-Matteo Bahoya is a doubt with an ankle issue.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Trafford; Elvedi, Muharemovic, Justin; Bogle, Tanaka, Ampadu, Gudmundsson; Stach, Okafor; Calvert-Lewin.

The Verdict
Arsenal 2-1 Leeds United
Arsenal’s eight-match winning run against Leeds, their home record this season and the likely return of Rice to shield the midfield point to a narrow but controlled win, though Leeds’ unbeaten form and Calvert-Lewin’s goal threat should keep them competitive into the second half.
Likely scorers: Eze, Gyökeres (Arsenal); Calvert-Lewin (Leeds)
