Niger State Police Command has confirmed an attacked by suspected armed robbers on a student lodge at Ndakitabu area of Lapai, in Lapai Local Council of Niger State.
In a statement, the spokesperson of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said that during the incident, which happened on Monday, June 23, 2025, at about 3 am, the armed robbers stabbed a 200-level student, Jafaar, on the neck.
Abiodun said Jafaar was rushed to Lapai General Hospital by police operatives in the area for medical attention, but was confirmed dead on arrival.
He said the suspects had fled the scene by the time operatives arrived in the area.
“As a result of this, some students barricaded the Agaie-Lapai road, protesting against this incident,” Abiodun said.
He further explained that tactical teams of the command have been dispatched to Lapai to ensure that normalcy is restored.
This was as he assured that an investigation into the unfortunate incident had commenced on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, who wants the armed robbers brought to book.
