Awka community in Anambra State has resolved to end protracted leadership crises, youth restiveness and cult-related killings in the state capital with the election of new youth leadership of Awka Development Union Nigeria (ADUN).
President-general of ADUN, Kanayo Nwogbo, who spoke preparatory for the election, said the community is looking forward to the time when lasting peace would return to foster restoration of lost glory for which Awka community is known.
He pointed out that the police and other security agents are ready to ensure a secured and enabling environment for the youth leadership election to be conducted freely, fairly and credibly.
Nwogbo, a lawyer, expressed confidence in the Electoral Committee led by James Uzor to live up to expectations, hoping that the emergence of acceptable leaders in the young wing of the Union would also go a long way in checking youth restiveness and cult-related activities in the area.
He sought for support of all and sundry to ensure the Electoral Committee succeeds, adding that a united youth leadership would help provide an enabling environment for Governor Chukwuma Soludo to consolidate on his good work, especially the unprecedented mass attack on roads and other infrastructure in the community, in addition to the appointment of indigenes in positions of authority in his government.
The election, which was moved from Saturday to today, will see the emergence of the Chairman and other executives of ADUN, Youth Wing who should be below 45 years.
