Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman is set to make history after joining Spanish LaLiga side Atlético Madrid from Atalanta BC, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian international became the club’s second Nigerian to ever play for the men’s team.

The 28-year-old forward, who has been a key player for Atalanta, will now embark on a new chapter in La Liga after completing a €40 million (≈₦66 billion) transfer.

Lookman set to continue Nigerian legacy at Atletico Madrid

Atlético Madrid have a limited history of Nigerian players. The first was Abass Lawal, who featured for Atlético B from 1997 to 2000 before making appearances for the first team in the 2000–01 season.

Since then, no Nigerian had joined the Spanish giants’ senior side — until Lookman’s imminent move to Spain.

Lookman’s arrival not only strengthens Atlético’s attacking options under Diego Simeone but also highlights the growing presence of Nigerian talent in top European leagues.

Lookman brings experience from Serie A and European competitions, including a key role in Atalanta’s Europa League campaigns.
