The Abia State Government has announced the launch of the Abia E-Health project, aimed at migrating the state’s medical records from analogue to digital formats, enabling telehealth, and expanding other digital health offerings.

The Commissioner for Information in the state, Okey Kanu, announced this on Tuesday in Umuahia, the state capital, while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s state executive council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

He said the E-Health project aligns with the state government’s broader efforts to establish a digital ecosystem that will drive services across all aspects of governance.

Kanu also noted that the onboarding of the state’s Emergency Medical Treatment gateway and the inauguration of the state’s Emergency Medical Treatment and Ambulance Services are scheduled to roll out soon.

“The orientation and onboarding of the newly employed health workers in the state has been held to provide adequate guidance on their roles and the governance structure of the agencies that are supposed to work in the state,” he said.

The commissioner also revealed that the formal rollout of the measles-rubella vaccine campaign was conducted by the Governor’s wife, Mrs Priscilla Otti.

He said the campaign is very important, as it will enable Abia children to receive the vaccine across the state.

“Vaccination will be done inside our Primary Health Centres and other health facilities. I’m sure most of you attended that flag-off ceremony not too long ago,” he added.

“Let me report that there are no reports of diseases or public health importance during the period of lockdown”.

The commissioner also stated that the one-stop shop at the Aba Export Lab, located on the premises of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic Aba, is nearing completion and may open by the end of February.

He said, “This facility is aimed at facilitating the ease of doing business amongst SMEs in Aba and environs. When fully operational, the shop will assist with activities such as business registration and NavDag approvals, among others.

“It is in front of the governor’s agenda to use SMEs to grow the economy of the state. Approval has been granted to establish an SME village and innovation hub in Aba.

“The village, when operational, will house dealers in computer accessories, mobile phone sellers and repair technicians.”

Kanu also disclosed that Otti has urged Abia residents to take the ongoing voter registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission very seriously.

He said the governor believes that full resident participation in the democratic process will not be complete unless they register and obtain voter cards, enabling them to elect leaders of their choice.

“The Governor urged Abia residents to ensure they register to obtain their voter’s cards so that the state can take its rightful place amongst the committee of states in the country,” he said.
